José Leite is part of the cast of the show “A Médica”

23 January, 2025

Actor José Leite is part of the cast of the show “A Médica” by Ricardo Neves-Neves. On stage at Teatro da Trindade until the 16th of February, the play unfolds based on the choice of a doctor who prevents a Catholic priest from entering the operating room, where a girl is dying due to a botched abortion and self-administered, because she is convinced that the presence of the priest, not previously authorized by the family, will cause unnecessary anxiety in the young woman. After the recording of the discussion between the director and the priest went viral on the Internet, Piedade began to be the target of strong reactions from some hospital colleagues, a growing group of social media users and, finally, a panel television station made up of activists from various social movements. Each questions their intentions in banning the priest’s entry, confronting it with their own moral, ethical and religious convictions, in what appears to be a televised public trial, ultimately leading to their professional dismissal.
